The term “Herbal Viagra” has been batted around in the media for the last week or so. According to the proprietor of a Las Vegas brothel, Lamar Odom had taken a significant quantity of herbal viagra along with a variety of other illegal drugs. It is assumed that the combination of medications are what contributed to his overdose. The reality is there is no such thing as Herbal Viagra. More than likely what was being referred to was an over the counter sexual performance supplement. There are a variety of herbals that can have a vasoactive effect on the body and impact blood pressure. Many times, since the medications are not FDA approved, it is difficult to know exactly what is in them. Our doctors would caution against using such supplements.
